Science Inquiry

Third and Fourth graders, you have been studying Life Cycles in Science.  Throughout the unit, you have asked amazing questions that show your curiosity and desire to learn more.  We are constantly going through our 7-step "Doing Science" process:  Ask a Question, Make a Prediction, Make a Plan, Collect Data (charts, tables, drawings etc.), Make a Claim based on observations and Draw Conclusions.

What about the 7th step???  It is Reflecting and Asking New Questions.  This is your opportunity to ask a new question based on your learning.  The only limitations are that the questions must be related to Life Cycles, and it needs to be a question that we can answer considering the resources that we have available to use.

So, WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION?  We will be spending time in the next couple of weeks researching them or designing experiments and, who knows... maybe you will come upon even more questions to ask!

Four Mile Fire

I have learned that it is not called the for mile fire because it is four miles. It is actually in the four mile canyon, and that 1,000 or more has drove away in a car. I am still wondering if the fire is still going on. And if any one got heart.

Fourmile Fire

I have a lot of questions about the Fourmile fire. My first question is ...How did it start and how did it end? The news of the fire makes me feel sad because animals and trees died. I love animals and trees. I want to adopt the kitty that had bandaids on her legs. Fires make me feel bad inside and I feel sorry for people that live there and animals that do not have a way out. I am happy that the fire stopped. I am thankful for firefighters. :)

When it started?
Why it started?

फौर्मिले Fire

Something I learned by studying the Fourmile Fire was there was a lot of confusion over how the fire got started. I'm still wondering how long it took to stop the fire and how many people got hurt

Fourmilefire

I have learned that the Fourmile Fire is named after how tall Boulder is. I also learned that the Fourmile Fire lasted more than one day.

How did the fire start? I heard two different things about how the fire started. One was a fire blew out of a firepit and a car ran in to a gas tank.
I want to know how the fire ended. Did it die of weakness or did the firefighters stop it.

Fourmile Fire

Hello friends! I am so sorry I didn't post earlier. Believe it or not, I completely forgot! I'll give an extra day to get this done.

We've been activating and building our schema about the Fourmile Fire this week. What are you thinking? What are you fascinated by? What have you learned? What questions do you still have?

The Zoo is Expanding

Thanks to the generosity of a fourth grade parent, we now have a tarantula in our room!  He is a Chilean Rose Hair, just like Rosie at the Butterfly Pavilion.  Now I need your help again.  What do I need to know about this little guy?  What do we feed him and how often?  I am hearing that he eats crickets twice a week.  What does he need for a good habitat?  I read that a 5-gallon aquarium with a screen top is ideal.  I found a good website here if you would like to do some reading.

Hamster or Gerbil?

We are going to have a new creature in our classroom thanks to Petfundango.com!  We have the habitat, now I just need to decide, should I get a hamster or a gerbil?
Hamster
I need your help.  What information do I need to have in order to make a good choice?  Some questions we discussed today are:  Are they both nocturnal?  Do they stink?  Should I get a male or female?  How much do they eat?  What should we name him or her?  Should we name him or her after a Greek god like our box turtle Poseidon?
Gerbil

Do some research or give me some information based on your prior knowledge and leave me a comment.

Thanks for your help!
