Dear Sparky...

Parents and Students,

The third and fourth grades recently wrote postcards to demonstrate their understanding of electricity, circuits and switches.  Their task was to write a postcard from the perspective of electricity, writing to their electricity cousins about traveling through a circuit.  They were also challenged to use vocabulary that they learned in this unit:  circuit, open, complete, closed, incomplete, positive, negative, switch, insulator, conductor.

Students' stories will be added to the comment sections in the coming weeks.  -- Mr. Lewis

  3. Dear Mr.Conductor,
You cant believe where I was last night. Well I am just to exited to tell you. Okay I was in a circuit! Can you believe that! Guess what I went through a battery, light bulb even a paperclip and two fastners. That's awesome. That's not the rest. Did you know an open circuit is not a complete because the electricity can't make it through, and a closed circuit is a complete circuit. It's a full circuit so I can get around. You see the switch (paper clip) is metal, and anything can go through it. So if you move the switch it stops the electricity from coming through. So you see that's how I traveled through my awesome journey.

  4. Dear Negative Energies, I just got back from the new switch in Circuitstan. It was so cool! It was ten times better than the circuitcoaster in Lightamainia. I was really lucky because I was the very first customer! It was scary at first, but when I got past the batteries I got used to it. After I had gone through through the batteries I saw some conductors. They were such massive pieces of metal that I couldn't see in the shadows they cast. All of this was fun, but the chandelier was by far the best part. I got to help light it up! I was sad when the open circuit became closed and I had to go through the insulator, but I still had loads of fun.

  5. Dear O.I.Circuit,
Guess what just happend to me. Well I just went through a complete circuit! First,I went through the posative side of a battery and out the negative. After that I was charged! Then,I went through the wire I was right at the light bulb when I stoped! The circuit went into a open or incomplete circuit. Finally, A minute or so later the kids turned it into a complete again yah! Here comes the best part I lite the light bulb! But as soon as I was done lighting it the ride was over.

    Love you,

Dear my cousins Zip, Zam, and Zoom, my friendly old Uncle Boom, and even my little Aunt Work-it, I went through a circit! There's a lot of places you've made your mark, but I went through a complete circit of Tony Spark! It was closed, no not open. 'Round I went rope a dop'n! Go from the negetive, not the top! Don't touch the insulator... POP! No, no, no, it was NOT incomplete. The places we've gone, there's no compete! Through a conductor,[an exelent metal.] To know it's awesome, you need no mental!

Sorry, I'm running out of time here...

"Hey Spirly! Were are you?You are missing all of the FUN at WireWorld?"Sudenly,I came between two huge wires.I put one hand to one,and the other hand on the second huge wire.I made a complete circuit.I saw an epic ride called Electricity Flow. The circuit became negative."That ride was fun!We were surrounded by white stuff."I found out what it was,the Insulator.I hope I see you next 10 years at the Cunductor Spirly.

  11. Hello, i'm Bulb and i'm looking forward to go complete circuits but first I want to have a little coversation on paper. There is so much to talk about!I really want to explainhow to complete circuits. Well, first we need to make light let me tell you how we need to do that, you need to have to have a wire a bulb and a battery. All right Swich good, then you put the one part around the bulb then you take the otherside but the battery needs to be on the wire! Put the bottom with the battery ! There you go light! Hold on so it is postive so it works like aconduter! That is just one of THE jobs we'll do more! See you son! Good work its not incomplete!

Dear Metaline,It's Sparky your one light-year older cousin.Me and the gang just walked into a classroom! It's a good thing they're studying curcuits right now!It looked like they were making switches using a card,2 fasteners,3 wires and a lightbulb. We climbed a table right when a group finished their switch. We got into a wire and electrons were floating everywhere! We kept going down the corridor and the leader of the brigade who calls himself The Brain Stormer almost got electrified. It was shocking!Har!Har! When I was cruisin in my Energizer R.V.-D size (the only I had an R.V. is because my Infenity broke.) I crashed into an open circuit missin' an energy supply. My insulater bumper fell off so my car became a cunducter. I fell into the circuit, now closed. on the way I passed through a switch and on the way around again the switch opened. Not again, the circuit was incomplete! my negtive and my posstive detached. It was all terrible, at least the bulb served Chinese food.

It took two hours to get there and once we did it took another five to six hours before we went anywhere.Once i did get to go somewhere some wierd kids poked my taxi with a wire and i flew out the negitive of my taxi.I knew i was in a complete circuit.I almost made it to the positive side of my taxi when those kids fliped the switch and i stopped in the middle of a open circuit. They fliped the switch agian and i opened the positive side of my taxi and jumped in.I drove back to my house. I went from the conductor to the insulator but
first I had to stop at a switch then I cept going. Good thing the circuit was closed and not open. If the circuit was open it would be incomplete and I would get stuck. When I got to the balb I found out the balb needs both negative and positive energy to light up pretty cool huh.

Before I knew it I flew out of the battery. It was like there was a flashflood pushing me through a wire. I took a break at the fasteners. There was some kind of circle. It looked like a paper clip.I don't know how it happened but I was already a the second wire. I was getting dizzy. I walked out of the fastener to take a look around.I saw a big light bulb. I didn't get to see it long. I shot through a wire. next thing I knew I was inside the light bulb. I could see a hand push the paper clip. The lightbulb lit up. My eyes were burning it was so light.Thank goodness I flew out of the light bulb. I was inside the battery again.'' not again i'm to dizzy to go again''. that is my adventure going through a circuit.'' The wierdest thing happened to me this weekend. While me and wire were making stuff work, something or should I say someone came early. It was opened circuit all fired up and ready to go. He usualy doesn't come unless there was a power outage, or someone wasn't working. But this time it was different,it was a lightning strike. It wasn't that different because the lightning strike caused a power outage. Then, I thought,"Is it a power outage or did something else happen?" The next thing I knew, my + and - sides almost got bit off by open circuits dog. Finnaly, switch came andopen circuit became closed ciruit or complete circuit. Everyone started working again. Thats how bad my weekend went

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! We hit the ride out out the negititive and into the wire. We ran into the paperclip but nothing happened. I waited until the circuit turned complete, then the paperclip turned. I spun around so fast I couldn't see. Then, we passed the conductor with a wave of his hat. Then, we shot forth to the filament where we went round and round and round fast. Out the lightbuld and we stopped so abruptly that I flew forth into the insulator. The circuit was open and I shot out. That was my experience.
