Mr. Lewis, who was that teselation dude? I was really bored (somehow) and I drew a bunch one day and it made me wonder. Ms. Trumbull, do NOT comment on this to tell me I spelled "teselation" wrong

I left that period off on PORPOSE!!!

Moving on...

Dear Mr.Lewis and Ms. Trumbull,
I miss you guys all ready! you are the best teachers ever!!! I had an awesome year together. I enjoyed learning new things together. I'll always keep trying in school. On my report kard, i'll keep working on the things i need to improve on. I hope you guys have a great summer! -M.J.

TYPING!!!

Why do you think learning how to type is important? How can it help you in the future?

Colorado Research

This week you've been researching people of Colorado's past during writing and social studies. Some students have felt great success, while others are full of frustration. Write a paragraph responding to following prompts. Please be honest and as specific as possible. Mr. Lewis and I will carefully look at your responses to determine our next steps. You've done great work so far!

-How are you feeling about your research? (What has worked well? What has been frustrating?)

-What are your next steps?

-What can Mr. Lewis & Ms. Trumbull do to help you?

Area of Irregular Shapes

Fourth graders...

Why were you doing this activity?  What was a challenge about it?  What does this have to do with math?

What is the Area of Your Skin?

It is said that you can approximate the area of your skin by figuring out the area of the outline of your hand and then multiplying that by 100.  In this post, students will be explaining the process they went through to calculate the area of their skin and commenting about whether they think this is a reasonable way to calculate it.

Basketmakers & Pueblo Dwellers

Suppose you could interview a Basketmaker or a Pueblo Dweller. What three thoughtful questions would you want answered?

Why I want to help

There was a devastating earthquake and it caused many people to lose their lives. I want to help because there is less food and water supplies for them to live.

How can we help Japan?

We're in the process of raising money for Japan, and we plan on donating all of the money we collect to the American Red Cross. I'm curious if you could choose what our money goes towards, what would it be and why?

How Much is a Million (Steps)?

How far can you go in a million steps??  Where would you go?  Third Graders have been working on answering these questions.  They have calculated how far they can go and have also looked at a map to decide where they would go in a million steps.

So... If you could travel anywhere in a million steps, where would YOU go?

You can see pictures of student pages here.

Where Do You Live?

I would like to introduce you to some animals that live in Colorado.  They are going to identify themselves, tell what Life Zone they live in and tell why that Life Zone is an ideal place for them to live.

Will It Work?

Question: How can we tell the difference between a complete and incomplete circuit?

Planning: First, we talk about the system we did not put together. Then, we predict how it's going to work.

1: How did you make your predictions?

I made my predictions by, Most of the experiments were simple you just had to know tricky tricks in the experiments. I'll tell you two or one. The wires need to be touching the contacts(metal) so the energy can run through. How about you can figure out the second one. Remeber use a lot of knowledge! So when I look at the picture the wires were touching all metal so thats how I figured it would work.

2: How did the results surprise me?

I figured that under the battery covering there's metal. When you connect the wire to the metal column of the battery with no covering the light bulb might light up. If it doesn't work, your battery might be dead, or your light bulb might be out.

3: Explain why "E" didn't work.

When you look at the picture, you can see that the other part of the middle wire is not closed to the other part of the battery so it's not complete.

4: Why did people get different results for "C"?

As I said in paragraph 2, people got different results because if you leave the cover on the battery it will not work, but if you take it off, it will work.

S.S.

1. How did you make your predictions?

I made my prediction by checking if it had positive and negative energy and all of the white wires are touching the right contacts. I also made sure the positive and the negative energy had wires hooked up to it and the other ends of the wires were touching a light bulb or motor.

2. Did any of the results surprise you?

Many of the results surprised me because many of the ways that we tried didn't work and most of them had positive and negative energy.

3. Why did "e" not work?

"E" did not work because it did not have positive and negative energy so it was called an open or incomplete circuit. You need positive and negative energy to make a closed or complete circuit.

4. Why did people get different results for "C"?

People got different results for "C" because some people had plastic around their batteries. Some people did not. Energy can not flow past plastic, but it can pass through metal.

Will It Work? -S.w

Question 1: How did you make your predictions?

Answer: I made myy predictions by using of what I already know. For example to light a light-bulb you have to have a wire and a battery. And you have to connect one end of the wire touching the other end.

Question 2: Did any of the results suprise you?

Answer: None of the predictions suprised me because I knew all of my predictions would work.

Question 3: Why did "e" not work?

Answer: It didn't work because, some people got different answers.

Question 4: Why did people get different answers for "c"?

Answer:Some people got different answers because some groups had batterys with no plastic.

-S.w

How did I make my prediction?
I made my predictions by some things I already knew like when I was 4 I got a circuit kit, then I learned about circuits. Also I knew that a light bulb had certain spots that had to be touched, the same with the battery. Did any of the results surprise me?
No:because I experimented along time ago and that knowledge is still with me. Also I knew just by looking at it.
E didn't work because the wires were touching one side of the battery, if the wires were touching both end of the battery it would work.

Thomas Edison

Thomas was not a good student. He had a lot of questions. When he grow up he wanted to answer his on questions. So he did. Back then people used gaslights for light. Thomas wondered if there was another way to use light. He used a lot of knowledge to figure things out. He used science to figure it out. He used materials to build the answer.
Finally he invented a light bulb. Thanks to Edison he built us a light bulb.
