Why do we do reading responses?
- To think about what we read
- To interact with books and texts
- To connect with and ask questions
What makes an 'Awesome Reading Response'?
- At least one paragraph (indented)
- Title of the book is included
- Details about the plot, setting, and characters that paint a picture in the reader's mind
- An explanation of why someone thinks or feels the way they do
Possible Reading Response Prompts
- Predict what will happen next in the story. Why do you think that?
- Describe a scene in the book. Really put a picture in the reader's mind.
- How does the main character remind you of yourself?
- What is the conflict in the story? How would you solve it?
- What type of person would you describe the main character as? Why?
- What decision has the main character had to make? Do you think he/she made the right decision?
- How does the story relate to something in your life?
- What is your favorite part of the story and why?
- What do you think the author wants us to learn from this story?
- Make a new ending to the story?
- What is the most important event in the story? Why?
- Would the main character make a good friend? Why or why not?
- How do you think the character felt during a certain event in the story?
- What advice would you give one of the characters in the book?
- Does the main character remind you of another character in a book? How?
