Why do we do reading responses?


  • To think about what we read
  • To interact with books and texts
  • To connect with and ask questions

What makes an 'Awesome Reading Response'?
  • At least one paragraph (indented)
  • Title of the book is included
  • Details about the plot, setting, and characters that paint a picture in the reader's mind
  • An explanation of why someone thinks or feels the way they do

Possible Reading Response Prompts
  • Predict what will happen next in the story. Why do you think that?
  • Describe a scene in the book. Really put a picture in the reader's mind.
  • How does the main character remind you of yourself?
  • What is the conflict in the story? How would you solve it?
  • What type of person would you describe the main character as? Why?
  • What decision has the main character had to make? Do you think he/she made the right decision?
  • How does the story relate to something in your life?
  • What is your favorite part of the story and why?
  • What do you think the author wants us to learn from this story?
  • Make a new ending to the story?
  • What is the most important event in the story? Why?
  • Would the main character make a good friend? Why or why not?
  • How do you think the character felt during a certain event in the story?
  • What advice would you give one of the characters in the book?
  • Does the main character remind you of another character in a book? How?
