The Zoo is Expanding

Thanks to the generosity of a fourth grade parent, we now have a tarantula in our room!  He is a Chilean Rose Hair, just like Rosie at the Butterfly Pavilion.  Now I need your help again.  What do I need to know about this little guy?  What do we feed him and how often?  I am hearing that he eats crickets twice a week.  What does he need for a good habitat?  I read that a 5-gallon aquarium with a screen top is ideal.  I found a good website here if you would like to do some reading.

Hamster or Gerbil?

We are going to have a new creature in our classroom thanks to Petfundango.com!  We have the habitat, now I just need to decide, should I get a hamster or a gerbil?
Hamster
I need your help.  What information do I need to have in order to make a good choice?  Some questions we discussed today are:  Are they both nocturnal?  Do they stink?  Should I get a male or female?  How much do they eat?  What should we name him or her?  Should we name him or her after a Greek god like our box turtle Poseidon?
Gerbil

Do some research or give me some information based on your prior knowledge and leave me a comment.

Thanks for your help!

Third Grade Mathematicians

We just completed unit 2 and the third graders worked on an artifact to put in their portfolios to demonstrate their learning of a math concept in unit 2.
Third graders, please write me a comment and answer the following questions:

  1. What is your portfolio item?  Describe it in detail.
  2. What math did you have to do?  How does this show that you know how to add and subtract whole numbers?
  3. What do you think of your work?  Would you do anything different next time?

Do your best with your work.  Be a good mathematician and explain all of your thinking.

Third Grade Bloggers

This morning our fourth grade blogging experts are pairing with third grade to show them how to sign in to this blog, how to post and how to leave someone a comment.

Fourth graders, have your third grade partners leave a comment to this post and answer these questions:

What is your name (initials only...)?  What is your partner's name?  What have we posted to the blog so far?  And, what is the best part about blogging?

When you go home this weekend, log on to the blog and leave another comment with you parents.

Thank you!
