Fourth Graders...

What was this activity all about?  What was hard about it?  What does it have to do with fourth grade math?

  1. i discoverd the area of south america by using a clear sguare inch grid paper and counting all the squares. then i looked at the key and saw that every inch =400 miles so to make it a square inch i did 400 times 400 and got 160,000 square miles then i multiplied that by the number of squares i counted and i got 4,480,000 toal square miles in south america.

  3. This activity was all about being able to count full squares and part squares. It was hard because there were curves that would not appear in shapes. This has to do with fourth grade math because in third grade you are learning how to count area and perimeter of rectangles and squares. In fourth grade it's more unatural shapes.

  4. I mesured the map of Soulth Amarica. I got 28 in2. To get the scale I multiplied the map scale(400)by the screen scale (400) and got 160,000. Fianally, I multiplied the scale by the in4 of Soulth Amarica on the map and got 4,480,000.
