This is the blog for my 3rd and 4th graders at Bill Roberts. What will this blog be used for? How will this blog be different from our class wiki?
This blog will be a place where students can showcase their work in science and math. The wiki is more of an informational site and a collaborative space where students can contribute their ideas to a larger question. For example, there is a place to add numbers to the name collection box. Students or parents can do this together, but they do this anonymously, creating a page together with everyone's collective ideas. This blog provides an opportunity for students or groups of students to show off their knowledge of a particular topic like geometry or data collection in math, or the changing earth or ecosystems in science, and receive feedback about their learning.
This blog will be more student centered, whereas the wiki is slightly more teacher-driven. Students will be challenged to take what they learn and write about it on this blog so that their ideas can be shared with others: parents, experts, other students. After posting, students should check back on their posts to see who has commented. Comments from the "outside" give students an opportunity to continue to reflect on their work and revise their understanding of their ideas. They can truly have an online conversation about their ideas.
I'm excited to see what this blog becomes. Check back often to see the great work from our third and fourth grade students.
